Biography: John Tovey | Online Information Bank | Research Collections | Royal Naval Museum at Portsmouth Historic ...
In June 1940, Tovey was given command of all the Allied light forces in the Mediterranean and made second-in-command of the fleet, leading the former in the action against the Italians off Calabria on 9th July 1940, and ten days later sinking the Italian submarine Bartolomeo Colleoni.
In April 1941, Tovey was aware of Admiral Raeder’s plan whereby the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen should escape unseen from the Baltic, and join forces in the Atlantic with the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, and thereby pose a powerful threat to Britain’s Atlantic lifeline.
Tovey was appointed Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE) after sinking the Bismarck, and in the same year was awarded Knight Commander of the Bath.

Admiral of the Fleet Lord Tovey of Langton Matravers
Tovey always maintained that he learned a tremendous lot from his appointment although he did not altogether enjoy being a harbour watch-keeper in the fleet flagship; one anecdote he often told of this commission illustrates both his dislike of back-seat driving and his moral courage.
When Tovey came under strong pressure to move to a shore headquarters in order to better control fleet movements without the inhibition of wireless silence, it was mainly due to this consideration of morale that decided him to resist the suggestion adamantly.
Tovey maintained that they had acted perfectly correctly, and as he would have done, in shadowing rather than attacking, and when the Prime Minister threatened to have them brought to trial by court martial Tovey reacted by saying that he would resign his command to act as the accused's friend.

BNR Metal Pages -- Entwined   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
By no means a typical Earache band, Entwined recorded a single album in 1998 and were never heard from again.
Their style was gothic metal, a bit heavier than others in the genre, though Stephen Tovey's vocals were a minor setback -- unlike most gothic bands who employed either beauty-and-the-beast vocals, death growls, or angelic female voices, Tovey's rather strained singing didn't quite match the keyboard-enhanced riffs.
There were some good ideas here and there, but in general the album was a bit lacking, and perhaps because of this, they never recorded again.
