John Walvoord - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John F. Walvoord (May 1, 1910 – December 20, 2002), was a Christian theologian, pastor, and president of Dallas Theological Seminary from 1952 to 1986.
Walvoord was brought up in a Christian home, but had little interest in the faith until he was fifteen, when his family moved to Racine after his father accepted a position as superintendent of the junior high.
Walvoord became more involved in the administration of the school, serving as Chafer’s assistant and secretary to the faculty, and upon Chafer’s death in 1952, became the seminary’s second president where he served until his retirement in 1986.

The Last Trumpet - Dallas Doctors' Departure Distortions
John Walvoord, former president of Dallas Theological Seminary and author of several pre-trib books, has repeatedly claimed that while the early Christians were post-trib, they were not "futurists." They believed they were already in the tribulation and therefore were looking for an imminent rapture.
Walvoord implied that the Apostles actually taught "pre-trib," since they passed on the idea of "imminence." And, the early Christians were simply too stupid to keep the tribulation events in the future, as they had allegedly been taught by the Apostles.
Walvoord's claim, that "in the early church fathers there was no clear agreement that a specific seven year period as is indicated in Daniel 9:27 had to occur before the Lord could return" is very misleading.

Walvoord merely offers that "most of the difficulties raised by post-tribulationists dissolve upon examination." Yet, his meager comments on these texts by no means constitute an examination.

I had trouble rating this book because John Walvoord is universally recognized as one the great biblical teachers of our time -- a godly man who is to be greatly respected.
His books are a great example of how a position can be argued on a passage-by-passage basis, but when you stand back and look at all of the passages together, a clear pattern emerges: the author has come to his conclusions only by reinterpreting and changing the clear, straightforward message of the text.
Not to mention the chronological sequence of the seals, trumpets, and bowls described in Revelation, which places the return of Christ in Matt.
