John Wentworth (1671-1730) was an early settler in New England who served as Lieutenant Governor for New Hampshire from 1717 to 1730.
John Wentworth was first appointed Lt. Governor late in 1717, but for several years had little function in the government.
Then in 1722, governor Samuel Shute returned to England, a Lt. Governor took over as chief magistrate in Massachusetts, and Wentworth's role in New Hampshire was greatly expanded.

Born in 1742, Joshua Wentworth was a grandson of Lt. Governor John Wentworth, nephew of Governor Benning Wentworth and cousin of New Hampshire's last royal governor, another John Wentworth.

Hartshorne chances of making his way up the social ladder, as with so many loyalists who came to the Nova Scotia, were greatly increased when John Wentworth was named the lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia in 1792.
In and around 1792, Hartshorne formed a partnership with Richard Tremain; the pair were responsible for building a combined grist-mill and bakehouse at Dartmouth, across the harbour from Halifax Harbour.
Perkins is likely best known to historians because he kept a "comprehensive and voluminous diary" between the years 1766-1812 and it has proven to be a valuable resource to the history of the province during this period.

Governor — Land Commissioner David Dewhurst received 78.4 percent of the vote to beat Tom Kelly of Galveston in the Republican primary.  He will face former Comptroller John Sharp in the General Election.
District 1 — Acting Lt. Governor Bill Ratliff (R) Mount Pleasant easily survived a contentious Republican Primary Challenge from former State Representative Jerry Yost of Longview 69.7 percent to 30.3 percent.  Perennial candidate B.D. Blount of Paris is the Democratic candidate to meet Ratliff in the November General Election.
