john wiese is known for his many projects (sissy spacek, bastard noise, wiese & koh) and self released, small edition 7"s.
wiese's instrument is computer, but his music is not of your typical click and buzz aesthetic.

John Wiese - Magical Crystal Blah (Helicopter), John Wiese & Daniel Menche - Behond the Scathing Light 3" CD ...
Wiese has been involved in numerous projects, like Bastard Noise, Sissy Spacek, LHD, and played with many other musicians, but this is only his second full-length solo release, the first being 2003's Bubble Pulse.
This 3" CD by Wiese and Daniel Menche is comprised of a single track, "Behold the Scathing Light," that's more easily linked to Weise's recent work with Bastard Noise than his solo output.
His collaboration with Wiese results in ambient music that moves in masses of swirling sound or dense bands of tone that enter and exit the musical canvas effortlessly, and without commotion.

John Wiese - Magical Crystal Blah - Stylus Magazine
Wiese has always been a true experimenter; developing his own little niches in the vast noise world, tweaking and expanding them until he’s satisfied and then eventually moving on to the next.
Wiese has been documented live on several releases with Bastard Noise, alongside Wolf Eyes on their Live San Diego 2003 7” and on a few individual tracks and small-run releases of his own, so this isn’t a vast directional change in that sphere for him at all.
When I asked John if he played the guitar parts, live or had them sampled, he replied “I magically played them.” That sums it up better than I could.

This book truly does serve as both a guide book and an encyclopedia, offering just about every kind of advise needed to master the art of the fringe film from the men and women who make them, collect them, and love them.
Hall writes confidently and straightforwardly, highlighting such personalities as Maya Deren, John Cassavetes and Andy Warhol.
Following that, Hall covers drama, sci-fi, horror, and documentaries, interviewing filmmakers involved with them, giving them time to comment on their loves just as much as they are his.

Noggin and Wiese both give up one track each of the signature sounds, and then collaborate for a violin, oscillator, laptop throwdown.
This and the John Wiese release have been my two favorite “Recycled” releases.

Once there was a very obscure but brilliant band called ‘man is the bastard’, this band played a sort of grindcore with lots of influences from the (Japanese) noise scene.
On this CD release under his own name, Wiese presents the softer and more experimental side of his works.
Wiese uses a computer to generate all sorts of noises, and composes noise-tracks from them.

John Wiese is the element that connects these three CDs together.
Wiese's Sissy Spacek project is the polar opposite of Bastard Noise.
Wiese instructs us to program "Floating Ship," "Lunar Chaparral," and the last two untitled tracks for "easy-listening," probably as these are more "ambient" (this being a very, very distant cousin of Brian Eno's, though -- a very, very ugly cousin) than the other four.

Water Rights Case Threatens Species Protection (washingtonpost.com)
Sources close to the investigation said the two parties, who held a conference call with court officials Friday, were near agreement, but the accord -- which would have to be approved by senior Justice officials -- could still fall apart.
Last week the chairman of California's State Water Resources Control Board, Arthur G. Baggett, urged the Bush administration to appeal Judge John Paul Wiese's decision, saying the ruling "could fundamentally change the way that water resources are managed in California." The board issues permits for water use in the state.
But Wiese wrote in 2001, "The federal government is certainly free to preserve the fish; it must simply pay for the water it takes to do so." A year ago he determined the water agencies deserved $14 million in compensation, a figure that ballooned after the court factored in attorneys' fees and accrued interest.

 CNN.com - Water ruling could threaten species protection - Feb. 12, 2004
The case stemmed from the government's efforts to protect endangered winter-run chinook salmon and threatened delta smelt between 1992 and 1994 by withholding billions of gallons of water from farmers in California's Kern and Tulare counties.
Wiese's December 31 ruling, which awarded $26 million to a group of California farmers for the water diversion, is a clear victory for champions of property rights, who have sought to rein in what they see as regulatory excesses committed in the name of the environment.
Wiese's ruling could also have a significant impact in California, where courts have halted diversions of water to protect the environment, said John D. Echeverria, executive director of the Environmental Law and Policy Institute at the Georgetown University Law Center.

Splendid Magazine reviews John Wiese: Bubble Pulse
When first confronted with this recording's initial blast of relentless click-and-whirr electronic feedback, I thought, "Gee, this must be what Metal Machine Music sounds like." It's probably more varied and listenable than Lou Reed's infamous noise stunt, though I'm willing to guess not by much.
The more diverse sounds, textures, noises and effects Wiese uses, the more interesting the results, such as when he sets thunderous drumming beneath what resembles clipped, strangled guitars and cymbals.
Overall, however, his shtick is more mechanical than musical, and more irritating than illuminating.
