John Wilson McConnell (July 1, 1877 - November 6, 1963) was an Anglo-Quebecer businessman, newspaper publisher, humanitarian, and the most significant philanthropist in the history of the Province of Quebec, Canada.
McConnell was born to a farming family in the Muskoka Region of Ontario.
John Wilson McConnell was interred in the family plot at Mount Royal Cemetery.

McConnell, John Wilson, publisher, businessman (b in Muskoka, Ont 1 July 1877; d at Montréal 6 Nov 1963).
McConnell was the owner of the Montreal Star, the largest English-language newspaper in Québec, and as such was a force in the land.
In 1939 he threw his paper's support to the Liberals and against Premier Maurice DUPLESSIS in the Québec general election; he thereafter remained close to Mackenzie KING.

“Dr. Jean Wilson discovered the importance of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase in prostate disease almost 30 years ago,” said Dr. John McConnell, UT Southwestern's executive vice president for health system affairs and a urologist.
Wilson first envisioned the drug that became finasteride in the early 1970s.
Wilson wrote a pivotal paper published in 1974 in The New England Journal of Medicine, in which he wrote that men with a rare genetic disorder – 5-alpha reductase deficiency - did not develop normal prostates or prostatic enlargement.
