The unravelling of Dutch tolerance was gruesomely exposed in the murder of Theo van Gogh in November 2004.
Adrienne explains that Theo van Gogh’s killing was personally poignant because the suspect, Mohammed Bouyeri, grew up where she lives now.
He went to the same school as her daughter (though not at the same time) and was a regular visitor at a community centre where Adrienne had been president for many years.

In fact, drummer T.S. Monk's N2K album, Monk on Monk, was done at Van Gelder's and has received many critical plaudits, most recently being named Jazz Album of the Year in Down Beat Magazine's Annual Readers Poll.
From the first time I interviewed Van Gelder in 1989 for a radio program I was producing I could sense his genuine love for the music and his great interest in the legacy he has had a hand in preserving.
I found him to be no less engaging and immersed in his work, his new remastering of Blue Note classics in particular, when we had occasion to again speak on the evening of May 26th, 1999.

Personally I was mostly touched by the passing of the versatile monsieur Colombier, whose genre-bending scores defied all categorization.
Having developed an early interest in jazz music he left college in 1973 and about a year later started working as piano accompanist (and sometimes jazz violinist) to Cleo Laine and John Dankworth, an association which was to last into the early eighties and take him around the globe many times.
