On set, everyone smiles and laughs, Frakes peppers his commentary with a surprising amount of humor (example, at the end of the credits when TB2 appears carrying his name: "And it's directed by (GASP), look at that, Jonathan Frakes").
One thing I'm surprised he didn't make a joke of though is that when the gantry flips over towards the end with the Hood hanging from it is that the exact same thing happened to himself in Star Trek; Nemesis.
Frakes drops hints and ideas for a sequel, such as a developing relationship between Jeff and Penny and the possibilities that Tintin's powers present to a sequel.

Johnathan Frakes' direction keyed in on humor, character, and vibrant, full colors.
However, I found that daring, in that it concentrated on character development, emotion, and the injustices behind the conflict of the story, rather than just an actionized plot, as many other Trek films are.
Frakes' film takes the best of what TNG cast is all about (characters, humanity) and embodies that in a character driven film (much like older crew's "The Voyage Home").

From what I understand Frakes bought the exclusive rights to the episodes that he appeared in.
I had this one friend, and he went to a sci-fi con in up-state Washington around '97 or so, and he swore he saw a guy dealing bootleg copies of the episodes from his table.
He went back the next day to ask about them, and the guy swore up and down that Frakes (who just happened to be a guest at that specific con) saw them, and demanded he hand them over.

Jonathan Frakes is wonderful, and I love the fact that you can play along with the stories (that are also wonderful).
Jonathan Frakes and his leering expressions - you gotta love it when he gazes into the camera and recites one of those "Did he see a ghost or are we just cooking your goose" type sugues into the commercial break.

 STAR TREK: INSURRECTION - DVD
Every time Jonathan Frakes grants an interview, he tops whatever ludicrous statement he previously made regarding the results of his second time at the helm.
He has called Star Trek: Insurrection a comedy, a thinking man's picture, a throwback to the old series, and, most grievously, he's likened it to a John Ford western.
Frakes lucked out with First Contact, and repeat viewings of that film reveal the seeds of what went wrong in his direction of Insurrection: he has no sense of comic timing, and he mines for acting chemistry where none exists.

RE: The Next Star Trek Movie
I don't think Johnathan Frakes is a strong enough actor to get the leading role in a movie...
Frakes many times in the series proved to be a strong lead, just look at the Thomas Riker episodes, or even the one were Picard went undercover as a artifact trader.
There would definitely have to be some CG characters in those films, because of the Titan crew's diversity; it goes far beyond anything that make-up artists could do, even with all of the improvements that have been made over the years.

STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT - DVD
As with most 'TNG' outings, this one finds the crew time-travelling, holo-decking, and, in the case of emotionally challenged android Data (Brent Spiner), getting it on with the slimy Borg Queen (Alice Krige).
Star Trek: First Contact has a few standout moments, most of them homages--there's a great Kubrickian sequence that evokes 2001 and another that paints director Jonathan Frakes ("Number One" Will Riker on screen) as a fan of Miller's Crossing.
But the joie de vivre of the adventures that Shatner and company had has yet to find its way into new Trek; such a lack is never more evident in First Contact than during its passages set on Earth, which embarrass the whole 'enterprise'--why are we still listening to "Magic Carpet Ride" in 2063?

It should be noted that the episode was originally written so that Shelby could replace Riker, because Johnathan Frakes, who played Riker, was planning to leave the show.
However, after viewing the episode, Frakes was so impressed by the episode, he stayed with the show; thus, the plan to write him out was cancelled.
