Johnny DC was a character that appeared in various Silver Age DC Comics advertisments, and was used to promote DC's line of comics.
In the mid-1990s, Johnny DC appeared in the satirical special Sergio Aragones Destroys DC; there, he's shown as having become disillusioned with the modern direction of DC's superhero comics, criticizing the various members of the Justice League and accusing them of having changed for the worse.
In the 2000s, Johnny DC was revived and given a makeover, with his name now also used as the name of DC Comics' children (approximately ages 8-13) oriented line of comics, consisting of various licensed properties such as Teen Titans Go, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, and The Powerpuff Girls.

Johnny's clowning ways led him to be, at first, just a mascot for the group, but with The Flash's leaving the group, he was awarded full membership.
Johnny grew into his role as a hero, figuring out his command phrase, and acquiring a girlfriend (Daisy Darling, daughter of his one-time boss, retailer Herman Darling) and adopting a young, spunky little girl known as Peachy Pet.
Johnny was later taken over by the Ultra-Humanite, an old JSA foe, who took control of the T-Bolt and enslaved the world until undone by Captain Marvel and the Justice Society.

Johnny Craig was one of the leading artists of EC Comics, a company he joined in 1947 after attending the Art Students League.
In the 1970s, he contributed to the horror titles of Warren Publishing, using the penname Jay Taycee, which was derived from the pronunciation of his initials J.T.C. From the late 1960s, Craig did several (mainly inking) jobs for Marvel and DC.

DC Comcis announced in a press release today the return of their classic mascot Johnny DC with a new design and purpose - to serve as the marketing brand for all DC Kids titles.
DC included a look at the covers for the September release books as well as the three different logos to be used on each book.
The issue marks the start of a comeback for the character, who will appear on DC's all-ages titles beginning in September (and with the solicitation for those titles in the July issue of Previews, Volume XIV #7).

Yeah, I know, there's been a serious lack of anything substantial here for a while now, and I don't want to go into another dreary explanation/apology type post so all I can say is I have things in draft stage, I'll get them done eventually, and please bear with.
The story itself is no great shakes- it's got some of the worst dialogue I've read in ages (and I say as much in the comments) but it does have a nicely done happy ending, especially if you're familiar with the character's history.
Still, after over a dozen issues of neither-here-nor-there, it's good that he seems to have found a direction to go in...but for the luvva mike I wish he wouldn't be so damn tunnel-visioned about it now that he has.
