	DVD Review: Johnny Mnemonic (Superbit)
		SOUND: "Johnny Mnemonic" is presented here in both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio, same as all of the other "Superbit" releases.
		The film's soundtrack on the original release was not one that I found entirely engaging and that doesn't change for the better here, either.
		As for "Johnny Mnemonic" though, while this is a "Superbit" presentation that improves upon the audio/video of the previous edition, it's not a "Supermovie" edition - "Johnny Mnemonic" is still a very weakly acted and written picture.

		While Johnny Mnemonic is a film meant to inundate the viewer with the sights and the sounds and the people of an overwhelming universe, it wouldn't have hurt that goal to spend some effort on the narrative.

		Johnny is sent to Beijing to pick up a new delivery from a group of Chinese businessmen from a pharmaceutical company.
		Johnny escapes with the data intact and flees to the Free City of Newark, where it soon becomes apparent that Johnny has exceeded his storage capacity and must download the information within 48 hours of suffer a complete mental breakdown.

	DVD Review: Johnny Mnemonic
		Easily one of the worst sci-fi pictures of the last several years, I suppose "Johnny Mnemonic" can be looked at as sci-fi practice for Keanu Reeves before his success in the far better "The Matrix".
		So, Johnny goes on the run with the help of a bodyguard (Dina Meyer) and the low-techs, a gang lead by Ice-T. Essentially, the movie is one long chase sequence.
		Final Thoughts: "Johnny Mnemonic" is being replaced in October of 2001 with one of the studio's new "Superbit" DVD editions, bringing advanced video and audio quality.

		Mnemonic is a fairly impassionate, amoral character and Reeves brings these qualities to the fore convincingly.
		Slightly over-long and spoilt by the typical Hollywood insistence of love interest in a story that does not really need or suit it, Johnny Mnemonic is nevertheless an accomplished and polished piece of futuristic cyberpunk, true to its roots and a benchmark for future releases in the same genre.

		Although most of Braid's work on the film was done in Alias, a couple of shots were animated in 3D Studio on a Pentium to utilize some of Studio's unique plug-in effects.

		This 1995 film is an interesting document on both how far technology had come up to that point, and how far technology has come at the time of writing (March 2004).
		While the film does decay into B-grade action for a lot of the time, the story behind the sloppy bloodletting is an interesting and certainly valid one.

		Both film and game envision the Net look of the future, for instance, but those visions are distinct: in the film the Net is an ultradense urban core of a vast mega-megalopolis, all towering structures and winking lights.
		Johnny has data in his head and he has to create a data rig to get it out, or the bad guys will do it for him - via decapitation.

		I've seen a lot of bad movies in my life, but none so horribly filled with such drivel as this "I can't believe it was even made" movie.
		Between some of the worst acting I've ever seen in my life and extreme lack of character depth this film was just short of dung.

		It's too bad because the premise of the film was interesting, but unfortunately for my friends and I, this movie turned out to be just as bad as everyone had warned us.
		It's one of those films that makes you start laughing half-way through, when you realize that most of the actors in it suck, the location shots are filmed in dark "junkyard" type areas which they would like to have us believe to be futuristic (whatever...), and all the sets look like....well, sets.
		Some other hilarities of this film include Dolph Lundgren as some futuristic Jesus character whose supposed to kick ass, Henry Rollins as a pumped-up cyber-doctor or something, and Ice-T as some kind of a hobo dude with paint all over his face (Don't ask).

		You might be tempted to call it "Johnny Moronic" after you've seen this illogical and derivative adaptation of William Gibson's cyberpunk short story (available in his book Burning Chrome), which is all the more depressing since Gibson himself wrote the screenplay.
		Having done my homework on this film -- and having read the original screenplay and listened to the audiotape version of the original, the changes are significant.
		When Johnny is downloading the data the first time and the yakuza attacks, the anime playing in the background is Demon City Shinjuku.

		Unable to afford the price to have his childhood memories returned, Johnny agrees to take on some information that is double the capacity of his implant’s memory, leaving him with twenty-four hours to get the information downloaded before synaptic seepage will end his life and leave the data corrupted.
		The film is presented in an anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio.
		The Superbit DVD comes housed in a keep case with artwork almost identical to their non-Superbit counterparts and is then housed in a silver cardboard slipcase.
