In December '64 Dent took the band back to Sydney for a month-long engagement at the Rex Hotel, and while there they made their first Australian TV appearance on Johnny O'Keefe's Sing Sing Sing.
Johnny went on to play a major role on Australian rock over the next two decades, and he will be well known to many for his late '60s stint in Doug Parkinson In Focus, and as a long-serving member of John Paul Young's All-Stars band.
On 23 November 1963 Max and the Meteors made their first sortie across the Tasman but, on arrival in Sydney, they found that again their old rivals from The City of Churches had beaten them to the punch and Ray and the Invaders were already one of the hottest acts in town.

Note on Johnny OKeefe: After Johnny OKeefe had his first nervous breakdown, the “Johnny OKeefe Show” was retitled to “Sing Sing Sing” and given a new host (Lionel Long).
It’s interesting to note that the Beatles had first appeared in the U.S. on the Ed Sullivan Show only one week earlier—and they had not yet been to Australia—but still their presence is felt in this show.
After a year, JO’K returned to the show but producers kept the “Sing Sing Sing” title just in case.
