In 1964, the stadium was renamed to honor former Omaha mayor Johnny Rosenblatt, who was instrumental in bringing professional baseball as well as the College World Series to Omaha.
Rosenblatt Stadium, along with the entire city of Omaha, has become somewhat of a Mecca for college baseball.
In 2002 the mark of 5,000,000 spectators in the history of the CWS in Omaha was reached.

Rosenblatt Stadium may not have the cachet of a Yankee Stadium, Rose Bowl or Madison Square Garden, but it is the queen of baseball stadiums for every Division 1 college baseball team and player.
One day, Rosenblatt, now grownup, bought a ticket to a minor-league game in Omaha and was sitting in the stands waiting the start of a Triple-A, minor league game between Omaha and a team from Pueblo, CO to start.
In 1964 the city council voted to change the stadium's name to Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium for the former city council member and mayor who was so instrumental in bringing "AAA" baseball and the "CWS" back to Omaha, and who led the team that built the stadium bearing his name.

Were Johnny Rosenblatt alive today it's doubtful if the man for whom the former Municipal Stadium was renamed in 1964 would recognize the place atop the hill at 13th Street and Deer Park Boulevard.
Johnny Rosenblatt (1907-79), whose entry into public life was a direct result of his work on the stadium committee, oversaw his pet project when he became the city's public property commissioner in 1948.
A Johnny Appleseed of baseball, he was also instrumental in bringing the CWS here and remained a big booster of and frequent visitor to the stadium during two terms as mayor (1954-57, 1958-61).

The Stadium View Club is a nice place to eat before the game as you can stay out of the sun and enjoy food that is a bit better than the ballpark.
In fact, the front of the stadium is newly redone, which is quite a contrast with the inside.
Overall, the stadium is a fine place to watch a game, but avoid the sun if you are watching a day game by sitting in the upper deck.
