Johnny and the Bomb is a 1996 novel by Terry Pratchett.
The action of the novel revolves around an incident during World War II in which Johnny's inoffensive home town of Blackbury was hit by a bomb during an air raid intended for an industrial complex at another nearby town.
In January 2006 the BBC aired a three-part television adaptation of Johnny And The Bomb, starring George MacKay as Johnny, Zoe Wanamaker as Mrs Tachyon, Frank Finlay as Johnny's grandad Tom, and Keith Barron as Sir Walter.

Johnny Maxwell is back for another adventure in Blackbury in Terry Pratchett's Johnny and the Bomb.
Johnny discovers a "time lorry," a bag-lady's means of circumventing the usual linear flow of history, and is then stuck with the dilemma of leaving history as is or taking action to try and save some Blackbury residents who, in 1941, were in the wrong place when the Luftwaffe flew overhead.
I hope Johnny and the Bomb isn't the last we'll see of Johnny and his friends -- this cast of characters and their wonderful misadventures are too good to lie fallow for long!

Johnny Maxwell and his friends come across mysterious old bag lady Mrs Tachyon injured in an alleyway, and when she is taken to hospital they are left in charge of her squeaky trolley and a bunch of fl bin bags.
When Johnny and Kirsty visit Mrs Tachyon in hospital, she tells them her trolley is special - or at least the bags are, the 'Bags of Time', as she calls them.
Johnny learns this the hard way - his time-travelling exploits mean that he no longer exists, at least not in this life, and his gang have to figure out exactly what they did that caused things to go so horribly wrong.

'Johnny and the Bomb' is the perfect example of the BBC actually using our licence fee money to produce excellent entertainment instead of squandering it on dreary soaps and repetitive music competitions.
However, by messing with the timeline, the children are forced to face the repercussions when they return to their own time and find out they changed history, resulting in Johnny's grandmother being killed as a teenage girl in a German bombing.
'Johnny and the Bomb' is a nice mix of science fiction, light fantasy, drama with a smidgen of romance.
