Johnson County Fire District No. 2 in Stilwell, working in conjunction with the Johnson County Fire Chiefs Association and Johnson County government, has received a $546,000 regional grant as part of the 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The purpose of the regional grant is to provide fire and emergency medical service (EMS) units in Johnson County with mobile data terminal (MDT) equipment, which will be another communications link for emergency responders.
According to Ron Graham, president of the Johnson County Fire Chiefs Association, the mobile data system will be an extension of the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system already in place.
