Johnson Creek flows 26 miles from its headwaters near the Sandy River to its confluence with the Willamette River, passing through four cities (Gresham, Portland, Milwaukie, and Happy Valley) and two counties (Clackamas and Multnomah) along the way.
There are certainly more salmonid species using the creek for spawning and rearing than have been counted, but it is clear that the salmonid population in Johnson Creek has dropped precipitously.

JOHNSON CREEK - The United States Postal Service in Washington, D.C., is looking at three sites in Johnson Creek to build a new distribution center, a public relations representative said Thursday.
In July the U.S. Postal Service solicited proposals from property owners for either a 30- to 60-acre parcel of vacant property or an existing facility within one mile of I-94 in Milwaukee, Racine, Waukesha or Jefferson counties.
Anderson said the Postal Service is in the process of conducting space requirement and feasibility studies on the seven properties to see which would work best for the new distribution center.

On March 9 the Metro Council referred to the region’s voters, for final consideration at the November 7 election, a $227.4 million bond measure proposal for the purposes of purchasing natural areas and protecting water quality and wildlife habitat.
This construction has necessitated the closure of Tideman Johnson Park and a section of the Springwater Corridor Trail from SE 32nd Ave to SE 45th, both of which are scheduled to reopen this November.
In preparation for dewatering the stretch of creek to work on the sewer pipe, biologists from the City of Portland and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, as well as JCWC volunteers and staff, worked to salvage fish from the creek between June 1-15, 2006.
