Johnson Family Vacation is an American comedy film directed by Christopher Erskin, released on April 7, 2004 by Fox Searchlight Pictures.
The plot deals with a family engaged in a road trip, taking them across the country to a family reunion.

Johnson Family Vacation ('04) - Review - Stumped? - Stumped At the Video Store is a Magazine About Movies, DVD ...
Cedric the Entertainer stars in Johnson Family Vacation as Nate Johnson, the consummate family man who wants nothing more than to take his family on a cross-country trip to his mother’s house in St. Louis in order to attend the Johnson family reunion.
Not only does the film open with Nate and his son, DJ (Bow wow), stopping at an auto dealership to pick up their new car only to learn that they’ve been given the wrong model, but it features a host of other shockingly similar parallels.
Surprisingly, Erskin seems to have gotten into this as well, once giving Williams reason to refer to their family’s planned trip to see the world’s largest ball of yarn; in Vacation, the Griswold’s were planning to see the world’s largest ball of twine.

SCREEN IT! ARTISTIC REVIEW: JOHNSON FAMILY VACATION
Comedy: A family must deal with various trials and tribulations as they drive halfway across the country to attend a reunion.
Yet, where the Griswolds' antics and adventures were fun if dumb, the Johnsons' are a painful, 90-some minute trip filled with enough cinematic potholes, detours and absolute comedic gridlock to put even the chirpiest traveler in a bad mood.
If you don't want to experience the equivalent of a painful family road trip crammed into an hour and a half of pure movie misery, you'd be wise to take a wide berth around this lame, forced and decidedly unfunny comedy.

Nate Johnson (Cedric the Entertainer) is a mild-mannered Los Angelean who sets off on the open road with his family in a newly-rented, pimped-out Lincoln Navigator.
Furthermore, the Johnson family is an insufferable, one-dimensional lot—a far cry from the likable Griswald clan.
When the Johnson's finally arrive at their family reunion in Missouri (let it be known it looks more like the Hollywood Hills than the Midwest), it is understandable for the viewer to expect the story to wind down.

At the family reunion, Mac greets his brother with discouraging titles such as, “the second mistake, the second born.” During prayer over their bountiful feast, the two brothers pray for a mixture of blessings while reminding God of each other’s misfortunes.
The overall message of the film seems to be that it is difficult for a father to balance the desires of his family while at the same time exhibiting a leadership role and humility — and that love and respect is most important within families.
When the family is driving and they see a nun hitch hiking, the father speeds up, then comes to a quick stop when he sees a like 17 year old girl wearing a short mini skirt.

The JOHNSON FAMILY VACATION is destined for mayhem from the very start – if only because it involves the Johnsons, a high-spirited modern American family of opinionated individualists who know what they want and are always ready and willing to battle one another to get it.
Nate’s biggest rival in the family, apart from his wife, is D.J., his only son, who dreams of being a hip-hop artist despite being warned by his father that hip-hop doesn’t come with medical and dental benefits.
Because so much of JOHNSON FAMILY VACATION takes place in the Navigator, many scenes were shot on a stage, in front of a green screen, inside a specially modified Navigator with parts of the body cutaway to allow all kinds of different interior camera angles.
