R., which crosses it, has a flag station at the mill, for the accommodation of passengers and freight, called Franklin: The brothers have each held township offices, and are, as was their father before them, identified with the business interests of the township.
In 1857 was nominated for Representative, and ran ahead of his ticket some 300 votes, though defeated by 126 in 1870, he was chosen to represent this district in the State Board of Equalization, and is now prominently identified with the Grange interests of the county.

John Mott, a Quaker preacher, bought a large tract of land in the area, intending to found a Quaker colony, he was commonly called John by his brethren, and early settlers and land-seekers referred to this locality as John's Town.
The village which developed was given a post office as Johnstown on February 12, 1839, with Stephen V. York as its first postmaster, succeeded by Emory Cherry on April 13, 1843, the office operating until July 25, 1864.
The Bristolville post office was transferred to Johnstown on January 9, 1865, but was closed on May 25, 1874.

She is over 90 years old; is the oldest person in the township, and, although at such an advanced age, she is hale and hearty, and in possession of all her faculties, being troubled with only a slight deafness.
Returning to Polk Township, he bought 60 acres of land of Samuel Geltman, and farmed it for five years, when he sold to John Waters, and rented one year of the Johnsons-on the Plains.
He then, in 1832, bought the mill property in Polk Township, where he still resides, building a mill which is in operation to-day.

Back in the mid-1980's a woman I knew mentioned having just driven to Michigan to fulfill an annual obligation to family, and that she'd gone through Oklahoma.
Having that same family obligation, I'd always made the same trip (more than half of it identical) via Interstate 80 (the main street from San Francsico to New York City) which, after a dozen or so trips had becme boring (face it, it's boring much of its length the first time you drive it).
"Not so," she replied; "from San Jose to Holland, Michigan, is about 50 miles shorter and several hours faster via I-40" and whatever cuts up from Oklahoma to Michigan.
