Mari Boine and Nils-Aslak Valkeapää are well-known modern Sami musicians using yoik in their work.
One would be remiss not to add Wimme Saari - he is one of the world's most renown Sámi artists - whose use of joik is the central factor of his music - and thus identifying him as one of the foremost Sámi traditional musicians.
Mari Boine is one of the most popular and inspiring artists of her culture; blending elements of joik with other idioms - jazz, rock, world music - sculpting a sound which simultaneously exalts and transcends tradition.

Hearing it on the radio and buying joik records, Wimme was an early convert, and made his first joik at the age of 15, playing occasional concerts, but never thinking of it as a career.

Comment: Based on the other cds of Mari Boine's I have, I think this cd is a compilation of tracks available elsewhere--at least several of the tracks are on other cds.
I won't use this review to go on about joik, suffice it to say it is a song/vocal tradition of the indigenous people of parts of Scandinavia and Russia.
Mari Boine is one of the most popular joik performers, to my knowledge the only person as well known as her is Wimme Saari, who is also phenomenal.
