Topic: Jolinar

Jolinar Sharay - En'Scribe of Ivellios
Jolinar sold her skills to landscape the cottages of the city, a florist of sorts, often using her young seedlings to plant in this task.
He encouraged Jolinar as she grew bored and wished more of a challenge of herself, to seek to train as a scribe.
Rumors of his reputation had come to Jolinar's ears, but that did not deter her love for the man, he was Gorean through and through, and she could not deny him his own breeding.

 TV Review: Stargate SG-1 - 'Jolinar's Memories'
Samantha Carter must access her memories of Jolinar of Malkshur, the symbiotic alien she once carried, in order to save her father.
Jolinar, in turn, had once briefly possessed Captain Carter of the SG-1.
As such, "Jolinar's Memories" is the kind of episode that is great if you have been following the series, but will leave you with a headache if you haven't.

It turns out that Jolinar was in hiding; she (referred to as "he" for a while; although the symbiotes are technically genderless, they seem to take hosts of the same gender) was in the man's body to avoid discovery of an Ashrak, an assasin sent by the Goa'uld to kill her.
Jolinar is desperate to leave the planet, but Jack tranqs her before they can depart, and Jolinar is taken to a holding cell.
It's unclear why Jolinar was separated from the Tok'ra and forced into hiding, but presumably, Jolinar was on a mission in Cronus's realm when she was discovered, since Cronus was the one who sent the Ashrak to kill her.

GateWorld - Stargate SG-1 Episode Review: "Jolinar's Memories"
"Jolinar's Memories" is an outstanding episode that combines action, suspense, and character and plot development.
Though Jolinar is presented as a creature of benign intent, who took Sam only because it was necessary, we see in the closing scene of "In the Line of Duty" that, regardless, Sam is emotionally ravaged by the experience.
Amanda Tapping is wonderful in "Jolinar's Memories." She takes beautiful advantage of a script that shows the many roles Sam plays: brave and determined officer, efficient and equal team member, loving daughter, and unwilling host to the memories of a Tok'ra rebel.

Save Daniel Jackson | Kerenza's Views on Sam Carter
The idea of having Jolinar be a force for "good" who gave her life to save Sam was unexpected, as was Sam being left so isolated at the end of the episode by her teammates not understanding what she had been through.
Then in "The Tok'ra" we learn that Jolinar/Rosha had a previous emotional connection to Lantesh/Martouf which might now be part of Sam's inheritance from Jolinar, as well as the plot twist of her father now becoming permanently what Sam had briefly been when taken as a host by Jolinar.
Now, leaving me totally confused as to what their intentions were supposed to be from the beginning for the Jolinar thread, the Sam-Martouf relationship, and, as it clearly wasn't done to give us any character insight in Sam, what the point was of killing Martouf in "Divide and Conquer" in the first place.
