  CUSFS
Jomsborg was founded in 1975; it's true that it was a CUSFS offshoot and I understand it's true that the people responsible weren't very happy with the CUSFS of the day.
Exactly what their particular interests were I don't know, but Jomsborg is fantasy society, not a reborn SF society, which might be considered a clue.
CUSFS and Jomsborg officially amalgamated in the mid-to-late 1990s (I don't recall the exact date, though 1997 doesn't seem implausible); it was presented, not unfairly, as healing a divide.

 Jomsborg The New
Jomsborg the New is named after a (probably) legendary 10th Century Viking settlement called Jomsborg and the warriors who lived there.
The Veizla is the annual Jomsborg feast: apart from eating and (much) drinking, the Reeve issues a challenge to all attending Jomsvikings (previous challenges have included boasts, humourous verse, and riddles) and the Reeve and the companions for the new year are announced and inaugurated.
Jomsborg the New should not be confused with Jomsborg in Exile, which is a splinter group formed by ex-Jomsborg the New people when they left Cambridge.

Northvegr - A History of the Vikings
That Harald founded Jomsborg (Knytlingasaga and Fagrskinna) is more likely than the tale in Jómsvíkingasaga to the effect that it was built by Palnatoki, the Danish viking from Wales, who had won the friendship of Boleslav, king of the Wends.
In spite of the friendship between the Wends and the Danes, Jomsborg itself was inhabited by a purely viking garrison, and legend tells that this society within the fortress was governed by strict rules.
These redoubtable vikings of Jomsborg made more than one appearance in history before they and their fortress were destroyed in 1043.
