His popularity as a speaker earned him a position lecturing to the annual meeting of the UW Alumni Association from 1987 to the present, and the alumni have rewarded his retirement by donating sufficient funds to endow the JonBridgman Professorship in History at the University of Washington.

I had heard that Bridgman was a good teacher, and history seemed as good a subject as any with which to fill out my class schedule.
Bridgman taught the lecture session three days a week-one of those huge classes that had about 500 students sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in an auditorium.
I once missed a class, and when I showed up for the next session, Bridgman casually said to me after class as I was trooping out with the masses, "We missed you on Monday." I was both flattered and horrified.
The collaboration between Weller and Bridgman to produce the documentary began a year ago to focus on the dichotomy of the United States preparing for war, yet being completely surprised by the attack on Pearl Harbor.
You see, the most important part of Professor Bridgman’s delivery and the very reason why his strange verbal habits entertained us so much was a result of his pure passion for what he was saying.
Look at the pose Professor Bridgman makes as he tries to show physically what he feels about the point he is making.
I only took one class from Professor Bridgman but it is the most memorable class I ever took and the one I most vividly remember from the four years I spent at the University of Washington.
Even in retirement, Bridgman continues to teach two undergraduate classes each year as well as a wildly popular lecture series co-sponsored by the UW Alumni Association and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Bridgman was completing his graduate studies at Stanford University when a former classmate, then teaching at the UW, convinced the University of Washington to hire Bridgman.
Bridgman enjoys recounting this episode and others that demonstrate how his colleagues in the Department of History have contributed to his success in academia.
In the course schedule, I have suggested titles for each presentation; however, groups are free to develop their own approaches.
In lieu of a film presentation based on independent research, students may choose to give a presentation based on the lectures of JonBridgman, Professor Emeritus of History.
Bridgman’s 2001 Winter Lecture Series—entitled “The Movie Generation”—attempts “to sort out the relationship between the great epics of 20th-century American history and contemporary movies.” Presentations based on Dr. Bridgman’s lectures will analyze his arguments and apply them to films under discussion in our course.

When I was a junior, my father asked what I planned to do with all of my science and French background, and I said, "Well, I think I'll major in history!" Being a businessman, he wondered how in the world I would make a living with a history degree, and shook his head in disbelief.
It was an opportunity of a lifetime and I frequently thought about what I had learned in history classes as I experienced cultures and histories very different than mine.
I was always amazed when Dr. Bridgman would say hello to me by name when we saw each other on campus.
He is producing a documentary that features UW History Professor JonBridgman.
Weller’s company began a collaboration with Bridgman to produce a one-hour documentary, soon to be available through the UW Alumni Association and the University Book Store.
Weller says that he is thrilled to be able to support the liberal arts, which have been so important in his life and his career.
Tree Farm Communications --The French Revolution (4-Tape Set)(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The French Revolution is considered by many historians to be the classic model of human social revolution.
In a series of four lectures, Professor JonBridgman reviews the events which lead to the end of European fudalism, the decline of royal authority and the rise of democratic, representitive government.
In the final presentation of this series, Dr. Bridgman uses the French Revolution as a model to examine events which were transforming Eastern Europe at the time of this recording in August of 1990, just after the collapes of the Berlin Wall and prior to the demise of the Soviet Union.
