Jon Brion - Music Downloads - Online
Bio: Producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion grew up in a musical family: his father was director of the Yale concert and marching bands, his mother sang in jazz bands, and his siblings, Randy (a conductor/arranger in L.A.) and Laurie (a violinist), were both avid music students.
Young Jon didn't deal with instruction or practice well, but his natural affinity for improvisation and melody more than made up for his impatience.
Throughout the '90s, Brion found himself increasingly in demand in the studio, producing and collaborating on albums by Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainwright, David Byrne, and the Eels and soundtracks including the Grammy-nominated Magnolia.

 Jon Brion, Meaningless
Jon Brion would seem to be a prime candidate for this affliction.
In many respects, as evidenced by his collaborations with Aimee Mann in which he co-wrote, produced and played many of the instruments, Brion is the millennial version of the singer-songwriter, except, in the age of the computer workstation, he's singer, songwriter, producer, arranger and engineer.
Though Brion's debut may not rely on personality—his voice is fairly anonymous—it's a thoroughly enjoyable listen and a grower to boot.

LA Weekly - General - Jon Brion's Amazing Musicquarium - John Payne - The Essential Online Resource for Los Angeles
It seems that for Jon Brion, music is not just a skill or a commodity; it’s a way of life — a metaphor, as you might say.
Brion comes from a musical family — Dad was a band director at Yale, Mom liked singing old standards around the house — and never was he discouraged from pursuing a life in music.
As Brion’s not exactly known for being a hip-hop aficionado, at first glance his and West’s association seemed bloody unlikely, too, come to think of it.

Cokemachineglow.com : Old Favorite: Jon Brion: Meaningless / Jim O'Rourke: Insignificance
Brion, on the other hand, has always carried a torch for the Fab Four and George Martin, devoted to melody, McCartney-esque lyrics, and quirky production.
Brion’s deprecatingly titled Meaningless, his only solo album, is an unbounded explosion of his talent, bursting with exuberance and inventive instrumentation.
Brion is intent on communicating as broadly and obviously as possible through his music, and when he sings “I hope you understand my meaning” on the concluding ballad “Voices,” he accentuates the line with an absolutely striking chorus of multi-tracked falsettos.

 FIONA APPLE
Spurred by the controversial video for "Criminal" and such hits as the evocative, flawless "Shadowboxer," Tidal sold over three million copies, landed her on the cover of numerous national magazines, and established Apple as a major new figure in pop music.
Produced by Jon Brion (who has worked with artists from Aimee Mann to Kanye West), it was even more mature and realized than the debut, adding moods and tones to her unique, finely-wrought style.
So I left Jon to make all the decisions, and as a result it became more of a Jon Brion record.

Amazon.co.uk: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Music: Various Artists,Jon Brion   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Whilst the quality of the material in this collection is consistently high, Jon Brion's intimate, melancholic score fights to compete for mind-space with the contributions from other artists rather than merging seamlessly as they did they on screen.
This is undeniably effective in creating an evocative, emotionally chaotic listen - deliberately trying to recall the films cut and paste style - but one feels that if the two disparate elements had been given separate CDs to strut their stuff they would have been easier to listen to.
The songs that work best are those that Brion had a hand in: Beck's cover of the Korgis' 1980 hit "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" reworked especially for the film, and his own "Strings that Tie to You" a plaintive track that flirts with the idea of romance, nostalgia and memories.
