  Jon Favreau at Hollywood.com
Jon Favreau followed the adage to "write what you know" and turned his experiences as an aspiring actor and L.A. clubgoer into the story for the charming low-budget comedy "Swingers" (1996), creating star-making roles for himself and his friend Vince Vaughn.
Favreau's next major role was opposite Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner in the comic book super hero film "Daredevil" (2003), in which he played Foggy Nelson, the stocky law partner (and comic foil) to Affleck's blind alter ego.
Favreau, an accomplished screenwriter and script doctor, breathed fresh life into a script that had long kicked around Hollywood, adapting the scenarios to best suit Ferrell's loopy comic outlook and sprinking holiday-related pop cultural references, icons and allusions throughout the film.

Jon Favreau knows that some people think his new PG-rated adventure movie "Zathura" totally rips off "Jumanji." After all, it's about two kids discovering a board game, dusting it off and going on the ride of their lives, this time straight to outer space (instead of the jungle).
Favreau is the father of a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, so he has been immersed (for good and bad, he says) in kids' movies lately.
Favreau believes the key to making a good family movie is "believing in the lesson of the film and not feeling saddled with making it appropriate for kids.

SPLICEDwire | "Elf" movie review (2003) Jon Favreau, Will Ferrell, James Caan, Edward Asner
The bonus features are plentiful: Besides two commentary tracks (Ferrell's is skippable, but Favreau's is a good listen, full of how-we-did-it tidbits, insights into his choices as director, and he's also having a great time watching the movie), there are several deleted/alternative scenes (w/ commentary) and an hour of behind-the-scenes goodies.
Directed by Jon Favreau (best known as the writer and star of "Swingers"), "Elf" strikes a nimble balance between its kid-conscious sensibilities and its snarky sense of humor, often finding common ground in Ferrell's willingness to do anything for a laugh.
Favreau doesn't have a firm enough grip on that spirit to build it to a proper crescendo, leaving the film's contrived Santa-vs.-NYPD climax feeling flat as Buddy and the girl unconvincingly rally Caan and other sardonic New Yorkers into a sing-along.

hen you hear the name Jon Favreau, you'll probably remember that he's the guy who wrote and starred in Swingers (directed by Doug Liman), the movie that, back in 1996 (was it that long ago already?), made "You're so money" a commonplace and his friend and co-star Vince Vaughan something of a movie star.
If you're a hardcore Favreau fan, you also know his background, for instance, he was born in 1966, in Queens, New York.
While writing scripts to pay rent, family man Favreau is also working the development deal he earned from Swingers' success, out of which he's determined to make unusual, intelligent movies.

Written by and starring Jon Favreau ("Rudy"), the movie is not particularly insightful regarding male pattern loneliness or regarding it's setting among the struggling actor set in Los Angeles, but it is damn funny to a guy whose been there.
Cast as the girl who in the end turns his slump around is the positively adorable Heather Graham ("License to Drive," "Drugstore Cowboy"), who could make a guy forget his mother's phone number, never mind his misery.
