Harvey Fisk received his early education in the district schools and from his father, who was a graduate of Middlebury College; studied French in Canada (1844-40); taught that language in Bakersfield (Vt.) Academy and in the latter year became a clerk in a drygoods store in Trenton, N.J., where he remained for four years.
Fisk possessed a character of unremitting benevolence, contributing liberally to the mission boards of the Presbyterian church, assisting to sustain several mission churches, and generously adding to the endowment of Princeton Theological Seminary.

Charles Fisk: A Fond Remembrance   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
To get the whole of Charles Fisk means seeing organs much as shipbuilders regard their vessels (in or out of the water) or the titans of 19th-century pianism viewed their instrument as they debated its meaning without ever playing a note.
Charles Fisk was installing the Swell (Echo) division of the organ in Center Church, New Haven.
Fisk wrote of the good fortune that befell the project in the discovery of the 1830-ish Appleton organ case that became the kernel of the Old West case—but it was up to him to creatively re-imagine that kernel into what we see today, turning a center-tower single case into this twin-tower case with Rückpositiv.

Fisk's editors at the Independent approve of this approach -- as do Fisk's legions of fans, many of whom live in the Bay Area, where his dispatches from Baghdad, Beirut and elsewhere are devoured like sacred writs for their insight, edge and rhetorical tone.

A uniquely Fisk contribution is the Servopneumatic Lever, which combines the ease afforded by the Barker Lever with a perfected servo-control.

The Violonbasse, the first such stop in a Fisk or Rosales organ, reflects a desire for an alternate and incisive pedal voice; this particular stop is patterned after those of Edmund Schulze, the celebrated 19th-century German organbuilder.

Apparently, there are consorted efforts by some pro-Arab writers and journalists, to rewrite the region’s present and history, mingling facts with fictions, twisting the truth at every turn, and taking sides with the devil to serve their sole purpose: The elimination of the Christian and Jewish societies from the near-east.

Jonathan Cook: Time for a Champion of Truth to Speak Up
After hearing an address by Nasrallah on Lebanese TV, Fisk is particularly incensed by Nasrallah’s “hypocritical” comments that he would never have launched his operation to capture the Israeli soldiers had he predicted Israel’s brutal reponse.
But Fisk is equally enraged by Nasrallah’s other, more serious (and partially inconsistent) claim about the war: that Hizbullah knew Israel and the US were looking for an excuse to attack Lebanon and believed it was better to catch them off guard so that Hizbullah could fight at a time of its own choosing.
Fisk, rightly, lays the main blame for the damage to Lebanon’s national infrastructure -- and the deaths of more than 1,000 civilians -- at Israel’s door.
