Norcross is a city located in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
The original settlers in the Norcross area lived in Pinckneyville, 2 miles north of Norcross, at the crossroads of Peachtree and Medlock Bridge.
They later abandoned their settlement and joined Thrasher in Norcross when the railroad was built in 1870.

Norcross' founder, John J. Thrasher, was friends with Norcross, who campaigned for Atlanta's top elected job on a law-and-order platform — a position that doubtless would get him elected again, these days.
Norcross was very politically active in Atlanta, serving in the Legislature, on the city council, and in 1851 was elected Atlanta's fourth mayor, as leader of the 'Moral Party' and was credited with 'saving Atlanta' from lawlessness and disobedience."

Such a railroad route is known as an "Air Line." In 1858, a meeting was held in Gainesville, Georgia, of the stockholders of the "Georgia Air Line Railroad." The President was Jonathan Norcross.
Editor's note: Jonathan Norcross, an Atlanta merchant, was the city's fourth mayor in 1851.

There was surprise involved because "Alistair Norcross" was intended by me to denote the full name of one of my philosophy professors at Rice -- a person who has things like a personal web site and a job in a philosophy department.
The person I'd attempted to reference is actually named "Alastair Norcross," and unsurprisingly, as of this moment, my blog is neither first nor anywhere on the google hit list for that term.
