Trial on hold as accused tested for TB - The Boston Globe
John K. Powell, 33, of Roxbury, who is charged with killing a Roxbury man in 2002 and shooting at a Boston police detective investigating the slaying, suffered a seizure in the lockup at the Suffolk courthouse Friday morning shortly before testimony was to resume.
Powell was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where doctors began testing him for a variety of diseases in a unit for the acutely ill. Superior Court Judge Raymond J. Brassard sent jurors home, telling them only that someone at the trial had gotten sick.
Powell has also been checked for whooping cough and bacterial pneumonia, but the most likely diagnosis is ''an atypical form of the common cold," said Brassard, who had spoken to Bharel minutes before the hearing.
