Jonathan Ross, the presenter, has been named by his peers as the most powerful person on radio, thanks to his edgy wit on Saturday mornings on Radio 2, a show that he begged the BBC to cancel soon after it began in 1999, apparently dismayed by his initial performance.
Ross, who started out as a television researcher, began his radio career in 1987 when he stood in for Janice Long on Radio 1 for two weeks, just pipped fellow BBC DJ Terry Wogan, whose breakfast show has an audience of more than eight million listeners.
With 3.5 million listeners on Saturday, along with 4.5 million viewers for his television Friday night programme, Ross is equally at home in both mediums.
