DOT officials notified Jones Dairy Elementary School administrators about their plans and the school sent letters home with children explaining the road closure and offering alternative routes.
Jones Dairy Elementary School Principal Craig Matthews said he is hopeful that parents dropping off and picking up their children will not find the inconvenience too frustrating.
About 250 Jones Dairy students will be affected directly because the closure cuts off the route they would normally take to get to the school.

I am the mother of three children who were enrolled at Wake Forest Elementary GT Magnet School when I found out in January 2004 that they had reassigned my neighborhood.
I would rather have my children stay in one school, with the same kids, adjust our family schedule and get on with my life than have to worry every two years about where they might have to go to school.
Lee is the PTA president at Jones Dairy and the Track 4 vice president of the Heritage Middle PTA.; Reassignment has resulted in some students being forced into a year-round schedule.

Along with $1,000 to be used for a project of her choice, Johnson received a certificate and a Wal-Mart vest noting the award.
Johnson said although she hasn't decided how the award will be spent, it will be something "school-wide." This is part of the philosophy she said exists at Riverside Elementary School.

In 1999, when Brian and Kim moved to North Carolina from their native home in southeastern Louisiana, they found many ways to get involved in their surrounding communities.
They worked with various groups and individuals including a third-grade class (taught by the wife of one of their technicians, Josh Tillery) at Jones Dairy Elementary School, Shepherd's Vineyard in Apex, Robin and Craig Boudwin and many others to collect two tractor-trailers of supplies for hurricane victims.
