		Eastern Maine north of the Kennebec River was more sparsely settled and was known in the 17th century as the Territory of Sagadahock.
		The province within its current boundaries became part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1652, and was part of the State of Massachusetts when the United States was formed.
		Maine's original capital was Portland until 1832, when it was moved to the more geographically central city of Augusta.

		Jonesboro is a town in Washington County, incorporated on March 4, 1809.
		This large tract of land was diminished by ceding land to Jones' Port in 1832, to Columbia and Machias in 1838, and finally to Roque Bluffs in 1891.
		On the Chandler River, which empties into Englishman Bay, the village is on U.S. Route 1 where is splits to create Route 1A as both reunite at Machias to the northeast.
