The video documentary Jook Sing introduces Chinese-Canadian youth who talk about their experience of exclusion from and longing for Chinese culture and language.4 Discussions regarding internalized racism and the cultural differences between Canadian-born Chinese and Hong Kong-born Chinese function as the centrepieces of the film.
In her comments on her motives for making look Sing, Lee makes it clear that her Chinese identity is, simply, that she was born Chinese: "It is our ethnicity, it is our blood, it is just what we are; people look at us and they see someone Chinese" (Lee).

Since Keyes rejects much of what the liberal black community embraces, including affirmative action, he'll no doubt be portrayed as a "jook sing" without the inner substance to match his outward color.
Returning to Senate race, it is important to note that the Kenyan father of Democratic candidate state Sen. Barack Obama was black and Obama embraces that heritage, so at first glance the GOP's turn to Keyes would seem to blunt any potential racial overtones from seeping into the campaign.

Of course, this why ABCs are called Jook Sings simply because their parents think of them as empty minded...can't completely understand one culture or the other culture.
Illuminating cultural phraseology/elements such as the "Jook Sing" concept prove to me that the first-generation (and our brethren and sisters over in Asia) are smarter and more perceptive than I had ever imagined.
I would assume this is the case because many of them often complain about their "identity crisis", and are humiliated by their own people and sometimes, by society at large.
