Jorge Paez - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jorge Paez (born October 27, 1965) is a native of Mexicali who is a boxer, actor and circus man. Paez is nicknamed Maromero, in honor of the acts he performs at the circus.
Paez was trailing on all three scorecards, but he dropped the champion three times in the last round, which made him edge the bout by a close margin on each of the judges' cards and become world Featherweight champion by a unanimous decision.
Paez kept on going, and he had mixed results versus former world champions Lupe Suarez, Tracy Spann and future world champion Rafael Ruelas: he and Suarez drew in 10 rounds, he beat Spann by a 10 round decision, and he lost by knockout in the 10th to Ruelas.

The WBC's number-one 130-pound contender was supposed to face former IBF featherweight champion Jorge Paez; the famous "Clown Prince of Boxing" whose laughable and theatrical ring entrances have enchanted the boxing public since his November 16, 1984 debut against Efren Tineo.
Paez recently underwent a series of physical tests at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and took an MRI mandated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in light of the many bouts he has fought.
Paez was allegedly shaken by the news and after consulting with the physicians involved in his case as well as family members and close friends, he decided to take up to three to four months to decide what to do regarding his boxing career.

Paez, a former lightweight world champion, was of particular interest to the NSAC on Wednesday when his promotional firm, Top Rank, requested that the NSAC drop the "red flag" it has placed beside his name in a national registry of fighters.
Paez came under Nevada's purview, the Medical Advisory Board believes, because he took an MRI in Beverly Hills, Calif., last spring in preparation for a March fight in Las Vegas that he later said he wouldn't accept.
As Paez and his handlers have since discovered, that is not a process a fighter wants to begin unless there is a certainty that the fighter wants to fight here.
