Jose "Pipino" Cuevas (born December 27, 1957) is a Mexican former world champion boxer.
Cuevas won the WBA welterweight title from Angel Espada via KO in 1976 and made 10 successful defenses against Billy Backus, Pete Ranzany, Harold Volbrecht, Clyde Gray, and Scott Clark, along with two rematches with Espada.
Cuevas is the owner of a restaurant and a security company in Mexico City.

He began exhibiting in the early 1950s and is regarded as one of the foremost representatives of the neo-figurative movements that emerged in Latin America from the late 1950s onwards.
Cuevas specialized in incisive satirical ink, wash and pencil drawings of grotesque creatures and degraded humanity, often including self-portraits in his compositions.

Cuevas was born in Mexico City in 1933.
Cuevas' work was influenced by the graphic art of Goya and Picasso as well as by Posada and Orozco, whose representations of deformed creatures, degraded humanity and prostitutes were of particular thematic interest.

Cuevas is a self-taught draftsman, engraver and sculptor, having taken only one course at Escuela de Pintura, Grabado y Escultura "La Esmeralda." In the mid 1940s, Cuevas was a controversial personality in Mexico because of his very public writings against the Mexican Government’s role as patron of the arts.
During the 1950s, Cuevas was very active in the "Generación de Ruptura" (Rupture Generation) that looked for an alternative to the Mexican mural painting school, which emphasized social content messages.
Unlike most Mexican artists, Cuevas does not find the subject matter for his art in Mexico’s artistic traditions, but draws inspiration from Europe, specifically the writings of Dostoyevsky, Kafka, Dickens; the graphic techniques of Durer, Rembrandt, Goya; and the drawing styles of Picasso and Matisse.

During the early 1950s, Cuevas joined the politically active group, “Rupture-Generation”, which was opposed to the socialist artists favored by the government.

Hearns began his professional boxing career in Detroit, Michigan under the tutelage of the legendary Emanuel Steward in 1977.
