Zamboanga del Norte is a province of the Philippines located in the Zamboanga Peninsula region in Mindanao.
Its capital is Dipolog City and the province borders Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay to the south and Misamis Occidental to the east.
The Sulu Sea lies to the northwest of Zamboanga del Norte.

When the Spaniards arrived in the Philippines in the 16th century, Zamboanga was already populated by Muslims, along the coast and rivers, by Visayans, in Dapitan, and by the Subanuns in the interior.
The town of Dipolog became the capital of the province of Zamboanga del Norte.
At present, Zamboanga del Norte is populated largely by Dipolognons and Dapitanons, said to be the descendants of migrants from the province of Bohol, who were attacked in 1563 by Ternate raiders, and forced to resettle elsewhere.

TWO sisters who are still in their tender ages have been victims of sexual assaults by their own neighbor since 2001 in the remote Barangay of Damil in Jose Dalman town, Zamboanga del Norte, a belated report reaching Police Regional Office headquarters said.
The minors aging nine and 12-years-old accompanied by a social worker named Arlene Habico filed a complaint of rape and acts of lasciviousness against a 25-year-old suspect identified as Bebot Cuarto, single, of the said place, with the Jose Dalman municipal police station last October 4, the report stated.
The previous rape incidents involved a 15-year-old girl, who was raped by her own 26-year-old brother in Sergio Osmeña town, Zamboanga del Norte, and a 60-year-old father, who also repeatedly raped his own 13-year-old daughter in a remote village of Dumalinao, Zamboanga Sur.

visited the municipality of Jose Dalman in Zamboanga del Norte last March 5 to meet the growing number of seaweed farmers in the area.
A total of 320 seaweed farmers in Jose Dalman and another 50 farmers from Dipolog City were granted loans by Quedancor.
He noted that that the country's seaweed harvest is growing a double digit rates in recent years--at 11 percent in 2001 and 14 percent in 2002.

As the barrio grew steadily and progressively, Manukan residents made representations with the municipal council of Katipunan for the creation of the barrio into a separate municipality.
The bill creating Manukan into a municipal was sponsored by the late Congressman Roseller T. Lim upon representation by the Governor of Zamboanga del Norte at that time, the Honorable Serapio Datos.
It was in 1979 that the last seven (7) barangays stated above were severed to form part of the newly created municipality of Ponot (now of Jose Dalman) leaving only eleven (11) barangays with the mother municipality.
