Feliciano holds the distinction of being one of the few singers to have enjoyed success both in Spanish music and in English rock and roll.
In 1995, Feliciano was honored by the government of New York, which re-named Public School 155 the Jose Feliciano Performing Arts School.

José Feliciano was born 56 years ago in Lares, and is said to have begun his musical career at the age of three by accompanying his uncle using a cracker tin can.
Feliciano added strings, conga drums, and a jazz flute and, within weeks, had both the album and single at the top of the music charts.
It is important to mention that José Feliciano was the first artist ever to publicly change the traditional way the U.S. national anthem was sung, when on Oct. 7, 1968, he added a slow soul-sounding style to it while performing at the World Series.

Jose and I talked about this one for awhile, finding it quite interesting, because when I was pregnant with our first child, Melissa, almost thirteen years ago, I went to an Elton John concert that I'm sure, she "heard" it (and enjoyed it!), as well!!!
The only song that Jose is familiar which is similar to what you describe is an old song he sometimes sings to his children (or to impatient little passengers on a plane with which he may be travelling!).
Jose's formal school education ended in Senior year when he had to go to work full time...he regrets it today but has continued his personal education throughout his life and is even being honored with a doctorate this spring.

I first listend to Jose's versions of Light my Fire and Califoronia Dreaming when in college in the 60's and thought he was a major talent, a sort of Latino Ray Charles.

Jose Feliciano is soul,passion,and emotion not to mention incredible sensitivity to express what he feels in his songs.
FELICIANO is the sound who lit the fire of a whole generation in the laste 60's and early 70's.
