Comms Centre - Josef Frantisek - Hero of "Battle of Britain".
As the squadron leader, Witold Urbanowicz was facing an almost insoluble dilemma: either discipline Frantisek (which he attempted several times without success), or have him transferred at the expense of losing squadron pride.
Urbanowicz dealt with this cunningly: unofficially declaring Frantisek a squadron guest, which was acceptable due to his Czech origin.
Frantisek's sudden death in an 8 October 1940 accident remains incomprehensible, as is the casewith some other excellent pilots.

Subsequent research revealed that my growing admiration for Josef Myslivecek was shared by none less than Mozart himself who after meeting the Czech in Bologna in 1770 exclaimed, "He exudes fire, spirit and life." There is now little doubt that Myslivecek's style influenced Mozart a great deal in opera, symphonies, and violin concertos.
Moreover, it is worthy of note that even before 1767 Myslivecek was already writing the earliest examples of the string quintet, a form that Wolfgang made his own only much later.

Josef Myslivecek - Classical music composer   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Josef showed more interest in music than in anything else and, despite becoming a master miller (his father's trade) in 1761, the violin bow prevailed over grain.
Josef began composing in about 1760: a reported set of symphonies titled after months of the year is a myth, but he did indeed become an important symphonist, producing eighty-five examples.
After a brutal operation which removed his nose in attempt to "cure" his venereal disease, his earlier successes were forgotten and he died in poverty in Rome in 1781, aged forty-three.

But, of course, it would not be Josef Tyfa, if he did not redesign the entire alphabet, and to such an extent that all that has remained from the original was practically the name.
A further ingenious optical trick of Josef Tyfa is the figures, which are designed as moderately non-aligning ones.
Thus an imaginary third horizontal is created in the proportional scheme of the entire type face family, which supports legibility and suitably supplements the original intention to create a children’s type face with elements of playfulness.

One of the leaders of the movement among Bohemia’s artists for their rights in disputes with the Academy and other art institutions, he became president in 1848 of the shortlived but important Bohemian Association of Fine Artists opposing political and national oppression.
Twenty years earlier, Hellich and Josef von Führich were two of the most prominent members in the circle of students that reacted against the eclectic classicism of the Prague Academy and sought a new religious and national art.
Thus in the 1840s and 1850s he assisted in the stylistic development from Frantisek Tkadlík to Josef Mánes.
