Jozef Pilsudski (Polish: Józef Piłsudski, pronounced: Image:Ltspkr.png ['juzef piw'sutski], December 5, 1867 – May 12, 1935) was a Polish revolutionary and statesman, field marshall, first chief of state (1918-1922) and dictator (1926-1935) of renascent Poland, and founder of her armed forces.
Pilsudski had given Poland something akin to what Henryk Sienkiewicz's pan Zagłoba had mused about: a Polish Oliver Cromwell.
