The large Myslbek building is named after the land parcel on which it was built, a piece of land often subject to the caprices of Lady Fortune.
Myslbek is located on the historically significant border between the Old and New Towns.
The other side of the Myslbek building faces the palatial buildings of Ovocný trh (Fruit Market), which was one of the largest and most important areas in Prague for centuries, being part of an extensive market.

Josef Václav Myslbek lived and worked in the second half of the 19th century and at the turn of the 20th.

To me, a Klaus-lookalike St Vaclav caricature, riding an upside down dead horse is the very essence of the absurd theatre - worthy of the other Vaclav, the playwright-president.
The statue which adorns the top of Wenceslas Square is by Josef Vaclav Myslbek, whose surname is better known to Prague visitors as a modern shopping mall, Na Prikope.
Myslbek was not the outright winner, but got ahead (by a nose so to speak) of the romanticised design by Bohumil Schirl, through reworking his concept into a very symbolic and national revivalist Christian patron.

Whilst the present monument by the Czech sculptor Josef Vaclav Myslbek (located at the top of Wenceslas Square) was completed in 1912, there has been a statue of Saint Wenceslas on the site since 1680.
One of the most popular meeting places in town today, the present monument took on a new look during the 1920s with the addition of four other Bohemian saints: Ludmilla, Procopius, Adalbert and Agnes.
It has long been the focal point for demonstrations and is often festooned with flags and banners and used as a speakers' forum.
