Joseph Alessi -- virtuoso trumpeter and teacher
Alessi was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and grew up in Norwood, N.J., when his father, a musician who was also named Joseph Alessi, decided he wanted to move his family away from the increasingly rough streets of New York.
Alessi was still "not in a real high- paying job," Alessi said, and so he decided, as many musicians before him had done, to go west and work for the movie studio orchestras.
Alessi, because of his classical training, could read the sheet music and instantly transpose keys for the trumpet parts of operas, a skill in short supply in Las Vegas at the time, and so he did indeed get a lot of work.

 Greg Black Mouthpieces
Alessi mouthpieces are designed to provide the exact level of fit and comfort to the "chops" that a correct shoe size provides to a particular human foot.
Similarly, the player who has more "fleshy" chops performing a long recital might find his or her lips swelling a bit, at which point the lips need a little more room in the mouthpiece to "get the job done" without discomfort or compromises in the performance quality.
As in all of the Alessi Signature Series of mouthpieces, we have designed this series to accommodate the player with the need for more room and comfort.
