Review of Joseph Wilson's Book: The Right Man, in the Right Fight
Wilson's odyssey—how a West Coast hippie surfer, carpenter, and skier became a top diplomat and Presidential advisor on Africa is an amusing tale, which occupies a good portion of the rest of Wilson's memoir.
Wilson was by then retired from government service, and had a good reputation as a former Ambassador to Gabon and São Tomé and Principe (1992-95), and as the General Service Officer in Niamey, Niger (1976-78).
Wilson vehemently denies there is any truth to this claim, while furious that his wife's identity was revealed—a criminal act, as he and others have pointed out.

 Definition of Woodrow Wilson
Wilson did have contempt for the committee system, where Congressmen ruled by seniority and were not answerable to the entire nation.
Wilson said that the intricate system of checks and balances might have worked before the Industrial Revolution, when government was expected to be minimal, but was ineffective for modern times.
Wilson served on the faculties of Bryn Mawr College and Wesleyan University before joining the Princeton faculty as professor of jurisprudence and political economy in 1890.

Whopper: Joseph Wilson - Say goodbye to Plamegate. By Timothy Noah
At the buffet at Brown's home in Adams Morgan, former ambassador Joseph Wilson IV waxed indignant about the perfidies of the senior administration officials who he believes leaked the identity of his CIA-agent wife, Valerie Plame Wilson.
Wilson, 53, is the retired diplomat who was sent by the CIA to Niger last year to investigate claims that Iraq had tried to buy 'yellowcake' uranium there for possible use in nuclear weapons.
But that commonsensical take on the matter contradicts Wilson's Dec. 3 insistence to Howard Kurtz that Plame had to stay in the shadows because she "has obligations to her employer." Now Wilson was saying that Plame was only kinda staying in the shadows out of concern for her "personal security." Whatever.

James S. Robbins on Joseph Wilson & Niger on National Review Online
Joseph C. Wilson probably knew about that previous relationship.
Wilson's purported influence has been inflated to the point where otherwise sensible people (and some not-so) are alleging that the inner circles of the White House had to resort to felonious leaking to discredit him.
Wilson's cursory, candid, and unclassified investigation did not disprove this allegation, or even pretend to.

Joseph Wilson was the Deputy Chief of Mission, the acting ambassador at the US Embassy in Iraq 12 years ago during Desert Shield, the lead-up to the first Gulf War.
WILSON: Well, I think that from everything that I know about Iraq, Saddam will probably be surrounded by between 80 and 100,000 hardcore Republican Guard fighters who are prepared to die with him and who understand that their future is with him, live or die.

Clifford D. May on Joe Wilson on National Review Online
Wilson is now saying (on C-SPAN this morning, for example) that he opposed military action in Iraq because he didn't believe Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and he foresaw the possibility of a difficult occupation.
Wilson, a retired diplomat sent to Niger to look into reports that Saddam Hussein had attempted to purchase yellowcake uranium for his nuclear-weapons program.
Wilson had no basis for that conclusion — and that his political leanings and associations (not disclosed by the Times and others journalists interviewing him) cast serious doubt on his objectivity.
