G-protein-linked receptors are a part of a communication system by which a drug-receptor interaction on the outer surface of a membrane can affect the catalytic activity of an enzyme on the inner surface.
This altered G protein migrates in the plane of the membrane to the catalytic area of the enzyme, which is in an inactive, noncatalytic state.
Interaction of the altered G protein with the enzyme causes the enzyme catalytic surface to become activated.

House Document No. 108-204 The Cannon Centenary Conference: The Changing Nature of the Speakership
The Revolt Against Speaker Cannon The power of the Speaker of the House, through and by the Rules Committee, continued to grow under Speaker Joseph G. ``Uncle Joe'' Cannon (R-IL), who served as the Chamber's presiding officer from 1903 to 1910.
Writing of Cannon's daily meetings with his Rules Committee lieutenants and rank and file Members seeking the Speaker's permission to consider their bills, one reporter related: If the Speaker decides in the applicant's favor, he takes a little pad and writes the Congressman's name and number of the bill on it.
Cannon's decision that the Norris resolution was not in order was then appealed to the full House which overturned the Speaker's ruling by a vote of 182 to 162.

This paper replicates and extends the analysis of one study in the growing body of research testing theories of congressional politics historically-Keith Krehbiel and Alan Wiseman's "Joseph G. Cannon: Majoritarian from Illinois," Legislative Studies Quarterly 26, 3 (August 2001): 357-389.
The absence of significant effects for party status and member behavior in their estimates is largely a result of model specification, exceptionally high levels of collinearity among the central variables of interest, and the construction of their hypothesis tests in such a way as to predispose their results to Type II errors.
Thus, the pattern of behavior during the Cannon era appears to be more plausibly linked to the expectations of partisan theory, developed here and elsewhere, as opposed to those of majoritarian theory.

Speaker Cannon   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
One of the events that signaled the triumph of Progressivism on the national stage was the revolt against House Speaker Joseph G. Cannon of Illinois in 1910 by a coalition of Republican Progressives and Democrats.
While personally popular, Speaker Cannon had become a symbol of conservative or stand-pat political forces, utilizing his great powers to obstruct the Progressive programs of President Theodore Roosevelt and of legislators such as Senator Robert La Follette of Wisconsin.
The revolt against Cannon also represented the end of a brief but recurring House experiment in centralizing powers within the Speakership.
