  New Georgia Encyclopedia: Joseph Hill White (1859-1953)
Joseph Hill White entered the Marine Hospital Service, later known as the United States Public Health Service, in 1884, and served until his retirement in 1923.
Joseph Hill White received his initial medical training under his uncle, Dr. Samuel Gore White of Milledgeville, and received his M.D. from the Baltimore College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1883.
White died in Washington, D.C., in 1953 and is buried in Milledgeville's Memory Hill (City) Cemetery.

Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy disciple of Jesus, who, according to the book of Matthew 27:57-60, asked Pontius Pilate for permission to take Jesus' dead body in order to prepare it for burial.
It was said that Joseph achieved his wealth in the metals trade, and in the course of conducting his business, he probably became acquainted with Britain, at least the south-western parts of it.
Joseph met with the local ruler, Arviragus, and soon secured himself twelve hides of land at Glastonbury on which to build the first monastery in Britain.

Notes: In 1749, Mary Hill was granted 400 acres on Holeman's Creek in Frederick Co VA, this land was adj to that of Thomas Holeman/Holman and Joseph Sively.
Judging from the birthdates of the Hill daughters and the fact that they were neighbors in Hampshire County, as well as the fact that both were affiliated with the Pine Chapel Church in Jefferson County, it could be logical to assume that the Hills were a part of the 1786 migration.
Joseph Hill, Sr., died 01 Feb 1807, at the age of seventy-two.

Joseph's western border is Highway 17, and traffic noise (especially trucks downshifting for the grade) is a companion on some trails.
MROSD is attempting to restore this area's oak population, so you may see baby trees, or volunteer crews removing non-native broom (on one project I attended, we wrenched 5 truckloads of broom from the eastern slopes of St. Joseph's Hill).
Unlike the chaparral on the dry exposed hillsides on the south side of the hill, here the vegetation is mostly comprised of shade loving plants including madrone, coast live oak, California bay, and flberry.

Mikhail Kheifets, another Russian writer and literary critic, wrote an introductory essay to the collection entitled “Joseph Brodsky and Our Generation.” In April 1974, the homes of both Maramzin and Kheifets were searched, and numerous manuscripts and samizdat documents were confiscated, including Brodsky’s poetry and the introductory essay.
In 1996, Joseph Brodsky suffered a massive heart attack and died at the age of 55, leaving his new wife, Maria Sozzani, and two-year-old daughter, Anna.

Joseph Abner Hill, college president, the sixth of eleven children of Francis Patterson and Rachel (Witt) Hill, was born on October 29, 1877, on a cotton farm five miles south of Moody, in Bell County, Texas.
Among other things, Hill displayed in his office a collection of pioneer artifacts given him by Robert Elliott of Amarillo in 1913, but on March 25, 1914, the collection was lost in the fire that destroyed the college's first administration building.
Afterward, Hill continued his chairmanship at WTSNC until the summer of 1918, when he was chosen by the board of regents to succeed Cousins as president of the college.
