 Professor Joseph H. Keenan
Joseph H. Keenan, head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a noted authority on thermodynamics, whose interests have extended to jet and rocket propulsion and to gas turbines.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1900, Professor Keenan graduated from MIT in 1922 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in naval architecture and marine engineering.
As Executive Secretary of the USA Commission on the Properties of Steam, which reports to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Professor Keenan attended a meeting in Moscow during the summer of 1958, for the purpose of coordinating research on the properties of steam which is now on progress in many countries.

The Joseph Daniel Keenan Papers (1935-1976) consist of correspondence, memos, minutes, reports, legal documents, articles, news releases, telegrams, newspaper clippings, and photographs relating to Keenan's long and active union career and to his involvement in government and civic affairs.
Keenan was an active fund raiser for many of these organizations and much of the material is printed reports and financial statements.

Some have accused the IMTFE of having an American bias, because unlike the Nuremberg Trials, there was only a single prosecution team, which was led by Joseph B. Keenan, an American (though the members of the tribunal represented eleven different Allied countries).
Also, because the IMTFE only prosecuted officials of the defeated Japanese forces, some have felt that possible Allied violations of the laws of war were ignored.
