Joseph-Octave Beaubien was educated at the college of Nicolet, then went for a year to Rochester, U.S.A., to study English.
In 1857 he was elected a Conservative member of the assembly for Montmagny County, and having been re-elected in 1861 and 1863, he sat in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada until confederation.
As a minister, Joseph-Octave Beaubien introduced a number of bills, among them one concerning the sale and administration of public lands, and others amending the gold mines act, the law on surveys, and those on colonization.

Father Beaubien sold the property the following year, to his nephew, Doctor Joseph Octave Beaubien.

He attempted on his return from Europe to be an assistant to his father and wrote two articles on (Joseph Maria von) Radowitz and one on (Joseph Ignatius) Ritter's "History of Philosophy." These did not turn out so well as he expected and he thinks he shall never make anything more than an amateur Reviewer.

Joseph-Octave Plessis, visited the Maritime Provinces, bringing with him a priest, the Rev. Jean-Louis Beaubien, whom he stationed at Rustico, and to whom he entrusted the spiritual care of all the Acadian missions in Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen Islands.
In the year 1819 Father MacEachern was named titular Bishop of Rosea, and received episcopal consecration in Quebec 17 June, 1821.

The 1752 Joseph de la Roque census indicates that there were six Acadian families consisting of 57 persons who lived at Bay Fortune.
In 1812, Rev. Jean-Lois Beaubien of Québec arrived at Rustico and from there he visited the Acadians at Bay Fortune.
The 1853 structure was moved across the highway where it served for many years as a parish centre.
