Born in Lonoke, Arkansas, Robinson attended the University of Arkansas and studied law at the University of Virginia.
Robinson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1902 and served until 1913.
Robinson's face appears on the front of the United States half dollar produced for the 1936 Arkansas Centennial; he was one of only four living men to appear on a U.S. coin.

Robinson requested and was granted a Town and Pasture Lot in Georgetown but by the census of 1798 was living in Lot 34 where he leased 1000 acres of land from Sir James Montgomery.
Robinson’s family was from the north of Ireland originally; her ancestor was shut up in Londonderry during the memorable siege of that city by James II’s forces.
