Francis Joseph Sherman, poet and banker, was born 3 February 1871 in Fredericton, eldest son of Louis Walsh Sherman, lumberman and liquor merchant, and Alice Maxwell Myshrall, grand-daughter of James Maxwell, a Connecticut Loyalist.
Sherman remained devoted to her, and Roberts wrote that she was the one great and inspiring romance of his life.
In 1947, Roberts, Carman, and Sherman were memorialised at “Poets’ Corner” in a national monument erected on the campus of the University of New Brunswick in their native city of Fredericton.
