In Paris the Governor and commander-in-chief of the city's defenses General Louis Jules Trochu, assembled a force of regular soldiers that had managed to escape Sedan under Joseph Vinoy plus the National Guards and a brigade of sailors which totalled around 400,000.
On September 17 a force under Vinoy attacked Frederick's army near Villeneuve Saint Georges in an effort to save a supply depot there and were eventually driven back by artillery fire.
On September 30 Vinoy attacked Chevilly with 20,000 soldiers and was soundly repulsed by the 3rd Army.

This was the 22d annual folk fair, and over 55 ethnic groups participated to showcase their culture, ethnic diversity, and foods, as well as provide continuous entertainment from around the world.
In conjunction with this year's folk fair, the Central Florida Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association sponsored an essay competition entitled `Why I'm Glad America Is a Nation of Immigrants.' The winning essay was submitted by Joseph Mathews, a seventh grader at Seminole Middle School.
Joseph was recognized for his essay during the opening ceremonies of the folk fair, and it is an honor for me to bring this young man's thoughts to the attention of my colleagues today.

Brian McNamee, 34, of Rockaway Point, N.Y., was never charged in an Oct. 6 incident in which St. Petersburg detectives say a woman ingested gamma hydroxybutyrate, or GHB, an intoxicant known as the date rape drug.
Police said a night manager at the Vinoy discovered McNamee, the woman and another Yankees employee naked in the outdoor pool at 3:53 a.m.
When firefighters and paramedics arrived at the home, they found her husband, Joseph McManus, on the bathroom floor, said Alison Shanabrook, spokeswoman for Seminole Fire Rescue.
