Live Review: Sneaker Pimps / The Josephine Wiggs Experience, Richard's on Richards, May 11, 1997
We all know which the last band Josephine Wiggs played for was, and it's a pleasant surprise to find out that her new project sounds nothing like the Breeders.
Wiggs on electric upright bass) makes one think that maybe sounding like the Breeders wouldn't have been such a bad thing after all.
The crowd's enthusiasm for the Josephine Wiggs Experience grows with each song, partly due to Ms.

Josephine Wiggs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Josephine Wiggs is an indie/alternative rock musician, noted for parts in Perfect Disaster, The Breeders, and her own project The Josephine Wiggs Experience.
In 1990, Wiggs met Kim Deal when Perfect Disaster were supporting the Pixies, and Deal, Tanya Donelly and Wiggs got together to form The Breeders, which became a full-time band in 1992 after the Pixies broke up.
In mid 1996 Wiggs moved back to England and formed The Josephine Wiggs Experience, a collaboration between Wiggs and Jon Mattock (of Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized), plus input from others, notably Audu Obaje and Kate Schellenbach.

It's no surprise then that Breeders bassist Josephine Wiggs decided to release her own solo project this year as part of The Josephine Wiggs Experience.
The story of The Josephine Wiggs Experience started eight years ago when Wiggs, then part of the band Perfect Disaster, met up with drummer John Mattock, who was then part of the band Spaceman 3.
Wiggs' lilting voice haunts you while the unconventional instrumentation on the album, especially on the instrumentals, keeps the tracks from becoming boring.

Bio: One of alternative rock's most promising -- and frustrating -- bands, the Breeders were conceived initially as a way for Pixies bassist Kim Deal and Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donelly to let out some suppressed creative energy and to take a break from being the second bananas in each of their main bands.
Taking their name from the group Deal led with her twin sister, Kelley, in their teens, the Breeders combined the spareness of Throwing Muses with the shifting dynamics and warped pop sensibilities of the Pixies.
Indeed, the lineup that recorded Last Splash never regrouped: Wiggs recorded with the Josephine Wiggs Experience and later formed Dusty Trails with Luscious Jackson's Vivian Trimble; after Kelley completed her rehab, she formed her own solo project, the Kelley Deal 6000.

While Josephine Wiggs was once the bassist in that band, her sound in her first (and only) solo album is very different -- mellower, more languid and liquid.
Speaking of sinking in, Wigg's vocals are sunk in pretty far; her voice is fairly good, but often it is reduced to a murmur and sunk deep into the music.
The Josephine Wiggs Experience only produced one album, but at least "Bon Bon Lifestyle" was a good one.

Josephine wanted time to live a more stationary life in her adopted home base, New York.
She did many things, including recording with the Kostars and her own solo projects, and generally developed a full itinerary that precluded playing with the Breeders, for the time being.

Dusty Trails is Vivian Trimble (formerly of Kostars and Luscious Jackson) and Josephine Wiggs (formerly of The Breeders).
Wiggs recorded and produced the Kostars’ record, Klassics With A K, and while the sound of the two bands is similar, there is something missing in Dusty Trails’ music.
This is Vivian Trimble’s debut as lead singer and she does well; her vocals are hazy and sultry, with layered backing and harmonizations from Wiggs.
