New Zealand All Blacks Player Profiles, Match Details and Statistics
Josh Kronfeld was one of three virtual newcomers to the All Blacks who despite their youth and inexperience played dominant roles in the 1995 World Cup in South Africa.
Kronfeld, after one match in 1992, became a regular in the Otago side in 1993 and one of his early matches was in the decisive win over the British Lions.
Kronfeld surprisingly was relegated to the reserves for the second Bledisloe Cup test against the Wallabies later in the 1995 season, though in the match in Sydney he did take the field at halftime.

Josh Kronfeld - New Zealand Rugby Player - Rugby-Heroes.net
Like the man himself, Josh Kronfeld's ethnic origin was rather unorthodox - he described himself as "German-Samoan", an unusual combination to say the least.
Josh made his debut in an easy win against Canada in the World Cup year of 1995, but Jones still reigned supreme and in normal circumstances would have commanded the open sided slot in all New Zealand's tournament matches.
With Josh and Michael Jones part of an unbroken pack which played in all ten tests that season, the opposition didn't stand a chance.

Kronfeld's reputation is for using his head as much as his grabbing hands.
Sloan says that Kronfeld is 'unique' with his relentless pursuit of the ball, his ruggedness, graft and intelligence - as good, in his own way, as was the great Michael Jones with his peerless athleticism and cool skills.
Today, Kronfeld wins his 45th cap, just six short of the predecessor who is the All Blacks' most capped No 7 and an icon regarded by many New Zealanders as their greatest ever player.

Josh Kronfeld burst on to the world stage in the 1995 World Cup, along with fellow stars Andrew Mehrtens and Jonah Lomu, and was hailed as one of a new breed of All Blacks capable of wrestling the trophy back from Australia.
Despite this Kronfeld was surprisingly dropped to the bench for the second Bledisloe Cup Test later that year, although he did appear as a half-time replacement.
Some say the snub was because Kronfeld, along with team-mate Jeff Wilson, had broken ranks and signed contracts with the New Zealand Rugby Football Union (NZRFU) to effectively nullify the threat of a World Rugby Corporation breakaway.
