Joshua Waitzkin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Joshua Waitzkin (born December 4, 1976, New York City) was a child-prodigy chess player who won the U.S. Junior Chess championship in 1993 and 1994.
It was there, while playing blitz chess with the hustlers, that he was "discovered" by Bruce Pandolfini, a chess author and teacher, who later took Waitzkin under his wing for a number of years.
Joshua himself is the author of Attacking Chess: Aggressive Strategies and Inside Moves from the U.S. Junior Chess Champion (1995).

Waitzkin, who began playing chess when Bobby Fischer was single-handedly dismantling the Russian chess monolith, is obviously pleased (to put it mildly) when his son Joshua displays enormous ability at a very early age.
Waitzkin ponders whether he is doing the right thing by encouraging his son to devote so much time and energy to a game that can become all-consuming.
Fred Waitzkin gives insight to both the world of his son, who in the book is fast becoming one of the best chess players in the United States for his age, and the chess world in general.

Anyone who have watched Josh Waitzkin's tutorials in the Chessmaster computer-game will probably have done some research into who he is, and probably this movie will have popped up somewhere in your search.
Powerful movie and very intense for the young boys and girls in it in how they drive and push themselves to be the best at the game of chess and at the same time putting themselves in danger of sacrificing their one and only childhood to do it.
Josh Waitzkin did reach the top back then when the movie "Searching for Bobby Fischer" was made in 1993 and is still there some ten years, and dozens of tournaments, later but he did it without losing both his childhood and his kind heart and sensitivity for his fellow man by doing it.
