The rest of Josie and the Pussycats, written and directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, concerns a very silly scheme by the label (played by self-parodying Parker Posey) to control kids' desires through subliminal messaging (to file under duh!: Melody receives a secret message on her bathroom mirror: "Beware of the music").
And of course, Josie learns to say "I love you" to her utterly dull boyfriend Alan M (Gabriel Mann) and all three girls learn that being friends is more important than being in a band.

Josie and the Pussycats Movie Review by Anthony Leong from MediaCircus.net
As the latest piece of Seventies pop culture to find new life as a motion picture (in the footsteps of "Charlie's Angels"), "Josie and the Pussycats" is a surprisingly enjoyable and irreverent romp through a cynic's view of big music, with more than enough broad appeal to ensure nine lives at the box office.
Josie McCoy (Rachael Leigh Cook of "She's All That") is the lively lead singer-guitarist of the group, Valerie Brown (Rosario Dawson of "Down to You") is the pragmatic bass-player, while Melody Valentine (Tara Reid of "American Pie") is the ditzy blonde drummer.
Of course, if Josie, Valerie, and Melody get wise to this conspiracy of consumerism, it could mean the end of their music careers, or even their lives.
