		Lehdistödebatti Jouko Turkan Seitsemästä veljeksestä käytiin Kivi-kultin ja Turkan julkisuuskuvan voimakkaassa otteessa 1990-luvun kynnyksellä, kansallisen tulevaisuuden ja kansallisen identiteetin kysymysten tehdessä tuloaan suomalaisen julkisuuden kestoaiheiksi EY-politikoinnin puitteissa, leimahti ilmoille tempoltaan ja tyyliltään ehtasuomalainen kylätappelu kulttuurista.Jouko Turkan ohjaama tv-sarja Seitsemän veljestä käynnisti jo ensimmäisen osan lähettämisen myötä väittelyn kansallisen henkisen perinnön tulkintaoikeuksista.
		Turkan seuraava ohjaustyö valmistui jälleen kunnianarvoisen instituution sisällä eli Kansallisteatterissa syksyllä 1990 ja Turkka on ollut jälleen mukana televisiotuotannon puolella käsikirjoittaja-ohjaajana: tv-sarjan Kiimaiset poliisit ensi-esitys oli MTV-3:ssa vuonna 1993.
		Jouko Turkka on ollut pääotsikoissa usein 1970-luvun kohuvuosien ja -tapahtumien, kuten niin kutsuttujen Joensuun kulttuurikiistan tai Salama-sodan jälkeenkin.

		About half an hour after the second premier of our pretty radical Jouko Turkka's excellent and thought-provoking Konkurssisirkus was over at the theatre of the city of Turku, Finland, the latest Pope of Rome was dead.
